The inspiration for the painting series "Tango at Sea" was created during a number of times we stayed in the seaside resort of Ostend. Some of the nostalgic atmosphere of the early 20th century still lives there.
At that time the tango conquered, from Buenos Aires via Paris, the rest of Europe. Old engravings of swimwear and tango couples in hotel Thermae Palace witnesses this, and the Venetian galleries and music dome in the Leopold Park, where we also danced the tango last summer. In this book, tango paintings are combined with parts of scores and lyrics of 12 tango songs. From the lyrics a translation in French is also given. This book was created in cooperation with the Alliance Française Meppel and its Vice-President Nineke Stalmann-van der Laan, which are very grateful.
