Beside the passion, there is also sorrow for has lost loves, nostalgia, resentment and the loss of frankness as topics of the Argentinian tango. The feelings are violent: black and white. Since 2001 the tango has formed the topic for the paintings of Pim Stallmann. He follows courses in Deventer for learning marble imitations and in Leiden for grisailles (trompe l'oeil). In the newest paintings these faux-marble and grisailletechnics are used as a context, with on the forefront the tango dancers. Thus an environment is created of lost palaces and the forgotten beauty of baroque ornaments.
